Micronesian Kingfisher in Teacup

As much as I love the Micronesian Kingfisher, I am very glad to be done with this painting. I've worked on it for a couple of months which is well beyond my attention span. It boggles my mind that there are only about 100 of these beautiful creatures in captivity and zero in the wild.

Enjoyed your painting as well as your appreciation for the Guam Micronesian kingfisher. There are actuall between 100 and 105 birds in the AZA's Species Survival Plan breeding program. We started with 29 birds in 1986 and although growth has been slow, things have improved in recent years. We have sent 9 birds back to Guam for captive breeding there and hope some day to reintroduce birds back into the wild.
