The Abstraction of a Vulture

Abstraction of a Vulture 3

Abstraction of a Vulture 2

Abstraction of a Vulture 1

Abstraction of a Vulture is an exercise to meld abstraction with realism. Can't explain the need to do this...just going with it. Below is the image I used for the above 3 drawings.

BB Goes to Work

"Good morning deer", says BB.

It's BB's BIRTHDAY!!!!

BB's gotta look good...

Even though it's BB's birthday, she still has to go to work. She gets her commute on.

Coffee always tastes better out of a Foundation Dynamics mug.

BB helps Carey input some data.

Man, thinks BB, the foundation repair biz keeps the shovel biz in biz...

BB agrees.

BB plays boss..."do work, blah, blah, blah....".

This is where the real work happens...

"What up studio cowboy dude?"

BB's work day makes her smile.

Textiles de Tejas

These are the places my kid feet walked, the backdrop of my childhood dreams, and when I close my eyes, the places I see when I think of home.

BB Does Up the Day of the Lord, NZ-style...

Hot damn thinks BB, it's a beaut of a day...let's do this Sunday up right!

BB stops to smell the yellow flowers. Delicious.

BB kicks it in the hood with Seb.

"Don't worry little chick...I've got your back." BB does some crime fightin'.

Hells yes.

Time to tend to bidness, BB is Ameria bound in 9 days. 7 hour layover in Sydney, say what!

BB says, pack it up pack it in! She also wonders how she has accumulated so much shit...hmmm...

Let's not forget this is Sunday...time for BB to hang with Barbie Computer and Gregory Issacs.

Sem. 2 Studio Final

Nine more days left of year uno/semester dos. Holy s**tballs! CANNOT, I repeat...CANNOT believe it. I will actually be on American soil for the final hand-in but my work will be left in beyond capable hands in my absence. If I had to sum up my NZ experience in one word it would hands down be...humbled. I'm simply grateful that I've survived, everything else is gravy.

Tired, Trite, & Redundant: Household Appliances/Windows in Walls

Maybe I've read too much Bukowski and listened to too much Pink Floyd and I'm being as big of an asshole as I'm capable of being and this is really a big F.U. to conceptuality or maybe it is the most genuine work I've ever made and I'm too self-conscious to let you know that. Regardless, I know drawing images that represent household appliances to explore the notion of home it trite, do you?

SoFA Crit

So long School of Fine Art crit week. Two comments that stand out the most from my crit: it is following a journey...spot on, I mean they ARE maps and all and the second and I quote, "Maps are euroccentric." and then the student spent the rest of time staring out of my studio window. So onward I go...

Step Inside My Mind...

Childhood Floor Plan & Sparrows (in-progress)

4 weeks left of the semester and then I'm America-bound for the summer...I mean winter...I'll just say Christmas break. I sanded and painted the studio walls in preparation for the next crit and the work I'll be showing is done and hung. I then had a full-on OCD session and mega-organized my space. I pulled out the sparrow work from last semester and it was interesting to see it against the latest work. So I thought, hey, let's marry (gross) the two semester's together...sparrows meet floor plan, floor plan meet sparrows. I'd have to say that Childhood Floor Plan & Sparrows is conceptually the epitome of my research. Take that mind art!!!

7th Panel

Maps. Check.

So I've got 6 weeks till I head to the mighty U.S. of A. Ah, the motherland. So I'm in high gear. Map paintings. Done and done. The bottom 3 are taken from satellite aerial views of Beverly (Mesa, AZ), 13th Street (Phx, AZ), and Moxham Ave. (Hataitai, NZ). These most recent abodes have been lived in (and currently living in) during a rough patch of my life. Don't worry, I'm healing and making these has helped.

Next, finish the 7th and final panel to the Home Series (a.k.a. continuous paintings). About half way done with that one. Then...construct a seminar for Theory class explaining my research and practice and finally write a 3000 word research essay. No sweat, right?
